Discovery of body closes section of Galloping Goose in Saanich (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Saanich Police have reopended the Galloping Goose Regional Trail/Lochside Trail confluence.

On Thursday, May 25th, just before 8 a.m., Saanich Police received a call about an unresponsive man underneath the bridge at the corner of Carey Road and Ravine Way.

Officers attended and discovered that the man was deceased.

A portion of the Lochside Trail, from Darwin Road east toward the Switch Bridge at the Galloping Goose Trail, was closed until 12:30 p.m. while officers examined the scene.

The Major Crime Unit have determined that the death of the man does not appear to be suspicious.

The BC Corner’s Service attended and will be conducting its own investigation.

A section of the Galloping Goose Trail in Saanich has been closed Thursday morning after a body was discovered.

In an email statement to Victoria Buzz, Saanich Police confirmed the Galloping Goose trail will be closed for a few hours between the switch bridge and Darwin Avenue.

The area remains behind police tape and several police cruisers remain on scene.

A BC Coroners van can also be seen parked on Carey Road at Ravine Way.

Const. Markus Anastasiades with Saanich Police said more details will be released later today.
