A 4-years-old child was struck by a vehicle in Langford and police determined the driver was behind the wheel illegally.

At around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th, West Shore RCMP were called to the collision between the vehicle and the child in the 100-block of Bellamy Link.

The driver was in a grey 2002 Mazda Tribute, which is a mid-size SUV.

While the paramedics were attending to the young girl’s serious but non-life threatening injuries, police determined the child veered into the road which caused the collision.

The child was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Police say the 37-year-old driver was behind the wheel illegally as they had been prohibited from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act due to previous impaired driving incidents and being unlicensed.

Officers administered a breath sample test to determine if the driver had been drinking and the test came back positive, but under the legal limit.

According to police, he was arrested for prohibited driving and then he was released with conditions to not be found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

He is set to appear in court sometime in June.
