Time to prune your bush: World Naked Gardening Day is happening this Saturday

Share

Don’t be alarmed if your neighbour is out gardening naked this weekend, Victoria.

This Saturday, May 7th, is World Naked Gardening Day, an annual international event celebrated on the first Saturday of May by gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

World Naked Gardening Day has become a day that highlights the art of weeding, planting flowers and trimming hedges in the buff.

The event, which first started in 2005, is a fun and lighthearted way to promote sustainable living, body acceptance, and gardening.

The day is dedicated to those who like to dig around in the dirt without getting their clothes mussed up. It’s a day filled with beaming sunshine (hopefully), some exposed skin, and plenty of healthy gardening productivity.

While it’s linked to a movement of nudists who promote wholesome and unashamed acceptance of the human body, the World Naked Gardening Day is meant to be funny, lighthearted and non-political, founders say.

Those taking part are encouraged to use common sense when taking part in the event and to be respectful of their neighbors and surroundings.

But for those who are willing to take the plunge, World Naked Gardening Day is a unique and memorable way to celebrate the joys of gardening and the human form.
