BC Transit will be free for all commuters this Wednesday

Local transit-goers rejoice—BC Transit is celebrating Clean Air Day in Victoria this Wednesday by offering free fares all day long.

Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) says people can hop aboard at no cost on June 7th, as it looks to “help everyone make an environmentally-friendly transportation choice.”

Back in 1999, the Government of Canada proclaimed Clean Air Day as part of Canadian Environment Week, which runs the first week of June.

The commission says the annual week aims to raise awareness about air quality and climate change while inspiring people to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

“An easy way to do this is to encourage everyone to choose sustainable transportation alternatives—such as walking, biking or taking the bus,” VRTC said in the past.
