Here’s what’s happening in Langford for this weekend’s Canada Day celebrations

Ready to celebrate the nation’s birthday this weekend?

Langford is gearing up to host its highly anticipated second annual Canada Day event – between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 1st, at the vibrant Starlight Stadium located at 1089 Langford Pkwy—and you’re invited!

This free community event, put together by the City of Langford, promises an exciting lineup of activities that will delight attendees of all ages.

Kicking off the festivities is a mouthwatering pancake breakfast, where visitors can indulge in a delicious morning meal while supporting a good cause through donations.

The event truly has something for everyone, with live music performances throughout the day, the celebration includes a range of engaging activities and attractions.

If attendees want to explore their creative side, there will be Cedar Weaving Workshops led by Indigenous Knowledge Keeper, Linda Rabideau, where you can learn the art of cedar weaving, as well as face painting, and even artist painting demonstrations.

Make sure to sign up for the 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Cedar Weaving Workshops session or 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. session when you arrive at the event.

There will also be an opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms and traditions of Indigenous culture as you witness captivating dance performances—at 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.—by the talented Yellow Wolves and Young Wolves Drum Groups.

The West Shore RCMP will also be present with their motorcycle and make sure to grab a Canada sticker from them!

For thrill-seekers, the Langford Fire Rescue will host an exciting firefighter obstacle course that showcases the bravery and skills of these everyday heroes.

Food enthusiasts will have the chance to participate in a hot wing eating contest, testing their taste buds and bravery.

Meanwhile, talented bakers can enter the blue-ribbon pie baking contest, showcasing their culinary skills and vying for recognition—make sure to register to take part. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

The concession will be open during the event, offering delicious treats and refreshing beverages, including beers, cider and other options!

With a wide array of activities, including a photo booth, 3D chalk art, bocce tournament held by Wild Play (make sure to sign up), crafts, lawn games and so much more, this Canada Day event in Langford promises to be a day filled with laughter, joy, and community spirit.

And if you’re into magic, magician Jason Verners will be showing off his tricks place 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.—Verners was recently voted Canadian Magician of the Year and has won multiple international magic awards.

Day-long entertainment includes The Rising Circus arial acrobatics and stilt walking, Uminari Taiko Japanese drumming and so much more.

The celebration begins at 9 a.m. with the pancake breakfast, and the activities kick off at 10 a.m. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to celebrate Canada Day in Langford.
