While details are minimal, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirmed they’re investigating an incident in Sooke Tuesday afternoon that saw a large police presence.
Sooke RCMP said they were called to Kemp Lake Road just before 2 p.m. on July 27th. The area was blocked off to traffic for several hours.
Many Sooke residents took to social media during the incident stating there was a large police presence in the area, including members of the Emergency Response Team.
According to the Sooke RCMP, authorities were alerted to an incident of a distraught person on Kemp Lake Road, resulting in the unfortunate discovery of a deceased individual.
The IIO confirmed an investigation is underway and confirmed that Sooke RCMP were called by a man who appeared to be in emotional distress.
Officers responded to the scene, but the man was later found deceased.
The man’s death is not believed to be criminal in nature.
The IIO said it has started an investigation to confirm the details of the interaction between the man and police.
