A Friday morning fire at restaurant on the outskirts of downtown Victoria has been deemed suspicious.
Formerly known as ABC Country Restaurant and currently operating as Ricky’s All Day Grill, was ravaged by a suspicious fire in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Victoria Police Department’s Major Crime Unit (MCU) detectives are currently leading the investigation into the incident.
At approximately 3 a.m., both police and fire received reports of a structure fire near the intersection of Douglas Street and Burnside Road.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the restaurant fully engulfed in flames.
The intensity of the fire had caused extensive damage to the building, with the exterior walls visibly scorched and large segments of the aluminum roof facades strewn across the parking lot.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, the restaurant’s structure suffered significant destruction even before the fire crews could arrive.
Ricky’s All Day Grill, which took over the ABC Country Restaurant chain in 2014, now faces an uncertain future as VicPD MCU investigators conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the blaze.
The building and property has been listed for sale for several months at $2.8 million—the restaurant’s fate remains uncertain.
The primary route into downtown Victoria experienced significant traffic disruptions this morning as authorities, including police and firefighters, cordoned off roads in the area as fire crews worked to douse hot spots throughout the morning.
Anyone with video or information on the fire are asked to contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
