Nanaimo RCMP are seeking help from the public as they search for a litter of puppies stolen from a backyard earlier this week.

Just before 3 a.m. on Monday, June 26th, ten 8-week-old German Shepherd puppies were stolen from a backyard kennel in the 300-block of Black Diamond Drive.

The owner told police that it was her teenage daughter that witnessed the event happen after a noise in the backyard prompted her to investigate.

At the time of the incident, she saw several unknown suspects running away with the puppies and began screaming.

The suspects were said to have been wearing dark clothing and toques.

The puppies were placed into a dark colored SUV, then the suspects drove off towards Jingle Pot Road.

“The owner has reached out to various animal care groups and the community at large, and all have been very helpful in assisting the police with their investigation,” said Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Since the theft was reported, five of the ten missing puppies have been recovered and returned.

If anyone has any helpful information on the potential whereabouts of the puppies, Nanaimo RCMP ask that you call them at 250-754-2345.
