In a stroke of luck, a Lotto Max ticket purchased in Victoria proved to be the golden ticket in Tuesday night’s draw, matching all seven winning numbers.

The ecstatic winner is now the proud owner of a jaw-dropping $35 million.

Another fortunate individual in Ontario also possessed a ticket that matched the exact same seven numbers, leading to a thrilling split of the colossal $70-million jackpot, with each winner claiming an astounding $35 million.

The winning numbers were  4, 7, 13, 16, 31, 32, 39, and bonus number 26.

The odds of capturing a Lotto Max jackpot are truly astronomical, standing at an astonishing 1 in 33,294,800 for each $5 play.

Now, the question arises: who are the fortunate victors?

The identities of the winners and the specific location where the winning ticket was purchased will be unveiled once the lucky individuals come forward to claim their prizes. Winners have a generous 52 weeks from the draw date printed on their ticket to step forward and bask in their well-deserved fortunes.

This year has already been incredibly rewarding for BC lottery players, as they have collectively redeemed over $93 million in Lotto Max winnings. It’s worth noting that the largest lottery prize ever claimed in BChistory was a magnificent $70 million Lotto Max jackpot, which was triumphantly secured in September 2021.

On Vancouver Island specifically, a soon-to-be retired financial advisor living in Sidney won the islands biggest draw to date taking home $55-million after purchasing a Lotto Max ticket on February 28th of this year.

BCLC and Lotto Max held a press conference on Tuesday, April 4th with William Scott Gurney on hand to answer questions and to give him his larger-than-life cheque.

Gurney bought the winning ticket on a whim at a Save-On-Foods customer service desk in Sidney on February 28th while out buying groceries for his family.

“I was sitting in my office, [the jackpot news] was all over the radio,” explained Gurney.

“I called my assistant to my office, and she initially read the number on my phone as $55,000 — she then realized it said $55 million and we couldn’t do anything all day after.”

“I just stared at the ticket,” recalled Gurney.

After realizing what he had, Gurney locked the winning ticket away in a drawer that had a lock on it at his desk while he waited to come forward as the jackpot winner — knowing it would change life as he knew it.

“It’s a great dream,” Gurney said when asked how it felt to win. “I’ve been lucky enough that it happened to me.”

“It’s the dream, even one million or a couple million. I never dreamed of 55.”
