Fire at Government Street car dealership being investigated as ‘suspicious’

Share

Another fire near the downtown core has been deemed suspicious.

Last Wednesday, July 12th, VicPD attended a fire outside a car dealership on Government Street along with Victoria Fire Department.

This was the third consecutive blaze that firefighters attended that night alone and it was also the third suspicious fire in a few weeks.

On July 2nd, a Government Street heritage home was set ablaze suspiciously and the Ricky’s All Day Grill was also the victim of alleged arson on June 23rd.

This time, on July 12th, just after midnight, firefighters and VicPD attended Three Point Motors because a luxury Mercedes-Benz was engulfed in flames in front of the dealership located at 2546 Government Street.

Within four minutes of attending the fire, it was successfully extinguished, damaging only the Mercedes-Benz and the display vehicle beside it.

Since then, the fire has been under investigation, but now, VicPD’s Major Crime Unit (MCU) is treating it as suspicious in origin.

This latest dealership fire is now being investigated by the MCU along with the other two suspicious fires which were set mere blocks from the Three Point Motors.

Police say that while no one was injured in any of these fires, they all caused significant damage.

The MCU’s investigation into all three fires remains ongoing.
