The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) have taken over the investigation of a body found in Oak Bay this morning.
On Wednesday July 26th, at around around 8 a.m., two people walking along the 200-block of Beach Drive discovered a body of a man in the bushes.
Detectives from the Saanich Police Major Crime Unit swiftly arrived at the scene, and preliminary investigations indicated that the man’s death was deemed suspicious.
Consequently, the VIIMCU assumed control of the investigation, working collaboratively with Oak Bay Police, Saanich Police, and the BC Coroner’s Service.
The identity of the deceased has not been released to the public, as authorities adhere to standard protocols to protect the privacy of the victim’s family until proper notifications are made.
Meanwhile, a section of Beach Drive, between Monterey Avenue to King George Terrace remains closed to maintain the integrity of the crime scene and preserve any potential evidence.
According to Saanich Police, there is currently no perceived risk to the public, and this appears to be an isolated incident.
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may be relevant to the ongoing investigation. Anyone with potential leads is asked to contact the VIIMCU Information Line at (250) 380-6211.
