Rideshare imposter attempts to take woman back to his home against her will: VicPD

VicPD are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a driver and vehicle linked to a suspicious late-night incident downtown.

In the early morning hours of August 13th, a woman waiting for her rideshare in downtown Victoria was approached by a man in a vehicle in the 1900-block of Store Street.

He reportedly told her that he was there to take her home, and believing it to be her hired rideshare, she got inside and he drove away.

Police say once she was inside of the vehicle, the driver told the woman that he was taking her back to his place.

Upon realizing it was not her ordered rideshare, she was able to safely exit the vehicle a few blocks away, according to VicPD.

The vehicle is believed to be a grey, four-door sedan — possibly a 2013 to 2018 model Nissan Altima.

The driver is described as a dark-skinned man, 20-40 years old, with a slim build, short black hair, and a trimmed beard.

Investigators are hoping to identify and speak with the driver and any witnesses.

Anyone who knows any information about this suspicious interaction or has experienced something similar should contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654.

To report anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or submit a tip online at Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers.
