Comox Valley RCMP arrested a man in Cumberland over the weekend for attempting to impersonate an off-duty police officer.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 6th, the man followed someone to their home in Cumberland and approached them when they got to their residence.

He identified himself to the individual as an off-duty police officer.

“Several witnesses, including the victim, were keen enough to realize something was not right and called police,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“Fortunately, a police officer was in the area, quickly arrived and arrested the suspect.”

Following the impersonation, Comox Valley RCMP are asking people who may have witnessed this situation or had a similar experience to come forward and speak with police.

According to police, the man was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 with silver decals, a black cargo rack, and stickers that read K9 on Duty on the rear windows at the time of the impersonation.

He is described as a tall, 40-year-old man, who weighs around 180 pounds and has a short cropped beard with a shaved head.

Police have charged the impersonator with several offences.

Anyone with information should call Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321.
