If you’re looking for some inspiration on dog care, you’ll want to add this to your to-read list!
Over the summer, Victoria-based author Megan Catalano published her first novel, Happy and Healthy Hounds: Activities for You and Your Dog.
It contains more than 50 ideas to enhance your dog’s life by combining helpful actions with activities for new and experienced dog parents!
“Anyone who knows me knows I’m dog obsessed, so it’s been fun and rewarding to use my love for dogs to create something other dog parents can enjoy,” said Catalano.
“Dogs bring so much joy to our lives, so why wouldn’t we try to increase their happiness and fulfillment as much as possible? It’s the least we can do for our best friend.”
One of the neat activities within the book describes how you can play hide and seek with your furry friend. It provides both indoor exercise and mental stimulation, and is especially helpful on rainy or chilly days when your dog (or you) don’t want to play or walk outside.
Catalano says to simply hide somewhere in the house, using more obvious spots when you’re just starting out, and then whistle for your dog to find you!
The inspiration for the book came from a “doggie bucket list” that she created with her husband when one of their dogs was diagnosed with inoperable and untreatable cancer.
So, the book was born, and offers creative and practical ways to enhance you and your dog’s experience—they’re only here for a short time and it’s wonderful to soak in that precious time!
