A staple for late night grub will soon have a new location.
Victoria’s beloved Denny’s Restaurant is set to relocate to the former Shark Club location at the Gorge and Douglas Sandman Hotel.
While staff tell Victoria Buzz the restaurant is slated to open next month, a page on the Sandman’s website indicates the opening could happen next fall.
The move was prompted by the sale of the current building that Denny’s is located at the intersection of Finlayson and Douglas Streets.
A Denny’s supervisor told Victoria Buzz that the popular diner would be relocating mid-October. The news marks the end of an era for the Douglas Street Denny’s, which has been a familiar dining spot for locals and visitors alike for over 50 years.
The decision to relocate comes after the Pattison Group acquired the current Denny’s property several years ago, sparking discussions about the potential construction of a Subaru dealership on the site.
The new location for Denny’s, situated in the former Shark Club space within the Sandman Hotel on Douglas Street, brings a breath of fresh air to the venue that has been a staple in the Victoria area since 1993.
The pandemic and staffing shortages unfortunately led to the official closure of Shark Club in October 2022, but now, Denny’s is poised to breathe new life into this cherished space.
What can patrons expect from the new Denny’s location?
According to the supervisor at Denny’s, the new space at the Sandman Hotel is close in size to their current location, but it offers an exciting addition—an outdoor patio and will include a Bar One which dubs itself as the “perfect place for after-work cocktails, date night or a spirited place to watch the game with friends.”
The Sandman Hotel itself is also making strides in its expansion plans. The hotel is set to double its room size to 200.
