Two people were injured on a BC Transit bus early Saturday evening after the vehicle collided with an SUV that ran a red light.
The incident, which occurred just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Douglas and Bay Streets, was captured on security camera located at Jiffy Lube, and shared by Reddit user, ajs380.
The footage, shows two vehicles travelling eastbound on Bay Street running a red light. While the first vehicle made it through the intersection unscathed, the second vehicle resulted in a collision with the bus.
The impact of the crash caused substantial damage to the bus, with particular emphasis on the front windshield. Consequently, BC Transit reported service disruptions with bus route number 30 as a result of the accident.
In an email statement to Victoria Buzz, BC Transit said it was aware of the incident between a bus and three vehicles.
“BC Transit bus on Route 30 was travelling northbound on Douglas Street just before 5:30 p.m. when a vehicle travelling eastbound on Bay Street struck the bus.”
A third vehicle became involved in the crash after the SUV ended up striking the vehicle that was in the opposite direction. That vehicle was stopped for the red light.
BC Transit confirmed there were passengers on board the bus at the time of the crash and two were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported from the bus or the other vehicles.
“BC Transit thanks emergency services for their fast response,” said the company in their statement.
According to BC Emergency Health Services, three ambulances were dispatched to the crash with just the two bus passengers being transported to hospital for treatment.
“Safety is our top priority at BC Transit. We will assist the Victoria police in their investigation into the incident and we will also be conducting an internal investigation,” added BC Transit.
