Canada Post has temporarily suspended mail delivery to a street in View Royal after an employee was attacked by two unrestrained dogs.

In an email statement to Victoria Buzz, the company said the attack occurred on September 28th at Prince Robert Drive.

Canada Post is actively collaborating with CRD Bylaw and Animal Care Services, who are conducting an investigation into the incident. Until the investigation is completed and safety measures are assured, mail delivery to the street will remain temporarily suspended.

“This is a serious cause of concern for our employees and for our customers. We are working closely with CRD Bylaw and Animal Care Services and they are currently investigating,” said a Canada Post spokesperson.

In the meantime, CRD Bylaw and Animal Care Services are working closely with Canada Post’s local operations team to provide affected customers with letters notifying them of the situation and advising them on where to pick up their mail during this suspension period.

The goal is to resume mail delivery as swiftly as possible, but only when it is deemed safe to do so.

“Our employees encounter dogs every day, and while they love them, we understand dogs can sometimes be protective of their homes and families. Quite simply – our employees don’t know “What Daisy will do?” – Facebook post (dog awareness campaign),” said the spokesperson.

Canada Post offered these tips to dog owners to help keep mail carriers safe:

  • Be careful when you answer the door, so your dog does not slip out
  • Keep your dog inside, in a fenced yard or tied up far from the front door or mailbox
  • Keep front doors and fence gates closed
  • Keep your dog away from the screen door, even if it is locked

The condition of the employee involved in the attack was not provided.
