CRD issues boil water advisory for parts of East Sooke due to contaminated supply

Share

The Capital Regional District (CRD) issued a boil water advisory over the weekend for part of East Sooke.

Residents in the Wilderness Mountain water system are being urged to boil their water before drinking it.

The CRD says the Wilderness Mountain Water System is located near the top of Mount Matheson and provides drinking water to approximately 73 service connections.

“Water quality may have been compromised due to high turbidity water originating from the surface water source, Wilfred Reservoir,” said a CRD spokesperson in their advisory.

“As a precaution, the Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until flushing and water samples indicate the water quality no longer poses a risk to public health.”

Island Health will be the organization to greenlight the water for safe consumption again when its contaminants are no longer present.

At that time an ‘all clear’ notice will be issued to all impacted residents.

“During the water advisory household tap water may be disinfected by boiling it vigorously for one minute,” said the CRD.

The CRD has also released a list of answers to frequently asked questions regarding the advisory which is available here

Until the all clear is given, updates can be found at the CRD’s alerts web page and on their X (formerly Twitter) account
