The excitement is building once again as the Royal Victoria Marathon returns to grace the streets this Thanksgiving weekend.

Set to take place this Sunday, October 8th, this event promises to be a thrilling showcase of athleticism, community spirit, and the sheer joy of running.

Whether you’re a dedicated runner or simply looking for a way to spend your Sunday morning, the Royal Victoria Marathon is an event you won’t want to miss.

This year’s run features two main races: a half marathon and an 8-kilometer race. Both races will wind their way through the scenic routes of Dallas Road and Fairfield, offering participants and spectators stunning views of the coastline and the charming neighbourhoods of Victoria.

The 8-kilometer race will kick off the day’s events at 7:15 a.m., followed by the marathon and half marathon at 8 a.m. It’s a chance to witness the determination, passion, and endurance of thousands of runners as they push themselves to the limit.

While the Royal Victoria Marathon is undoubtedly a highlight of the city’s calendar, it does come with some temporary disruptions to traffic.

Road closures and traffic diversions will be in place to ensure the safety of participants and to provide them with a clear path to pursue their running dreams.

The most significant road closures will occur between 7:45 a.m. and 9 a.m., with Dallas Road being closed off until 2 p.m. During this time, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to plan their routes accordingly, as they will not be able to cross the race route.

It’s essential to factor in these closures when planning your activities for Sunday morning, whether you’re cheering on a friend or simply trying to get around town.

The event has earned its reputation as a Boston Marathon qualifier, attracting over 8,000 participants each year from various corners of the globe. It’s a chance for elite athletes, dedicated amateurs, and first-time runners to test their mettle and achieve personal goals.

In a heartwarming addition to the 2023 edition of the event, organizers have introduced a 5-kilometer race and a kids’ run, scheduled to take place in Oak Bay on Saturday, October 7th. This expansion ensures that the Royal Victoria Marathon remains an inclusive and family-friendly event, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to embrace the joy of running.
