Here’s what the new pedestrian overpass in Colwood could look like

Safety first!

Cycling and walking along the Galloping Goose Trail in Colwood is in for some major improvements.

The City of Colwood has released the Galloping Goose Bridge design and construction details following a $3.6 million grant from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program.

The new overpass will be located over Sooke Road near Ocean Boulevard.

The grant was given for the new pedestrian and cycling overpass—which the City of Colwood has been steadily budgeting for.

The bridge rendering released will most likely end up looking slightly different as council has opted for some valued added options.

This includes enhanced under lighting, black powder coated fencing on the approach, post-tensioned cable fencing with a natural wood railing, and stamped concrete with a rock pattern.

Once design details and the foundation assessment have been finalized, there may be preliminary underground utility works and road works required before the bridge construction can begin.

The estimated completion timeline is about 28 weeks, and before the 2026 funding deadline.

In addition to the construction of the pedestrian overpass, improvements to the Galloping Goose crossing at the intersection of Wale and Wilfert Roads has also been proposed.

This would mean a fully signalized intersection, a diagonal shared crossing for the Galloping Goose trail, bike lane protection, extension of sidewalk along Wilfert Road and safer turning movements for larger vehicles.
