Quadra Street’s Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre announced it will have to close for over a month in order to accomplish some maintenance goals within the facility.
The complex will be fully closed, with the exception of their reception desk, from November 20th through January 1st of next year.
The City of Victoria says this closure is being done to achieve some “extended annual maintenance.”
Despite the closure, the City says that program registration will continue and can be done online, by phone or in person at the reception desk.
Reception hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, but will be closed during the holidays, from December 23rd to January 1st.
For those who hold active memberships at Crystal Pool, they will be accepted at all other regional recreation centres.
Members can still freely enjoy Saanich’s Commonwealth Place, Gordon Head Recreation Centre, Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Esquimalt Recreation Centre, Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, Panorama Recreation, SEAPARC Leisure Complex and the downtown YMCA.
Earlier this year, a motion was brought before city council to once again consider replacing Crystal Pool’s “crumbling facility.”
The motion passed and city staff were directed to investigate what it would need to take to revitalize the project for the current community’s needs, look into funding, investigate two to four possible locations for a new Crystal Pool and putting together a referendum asking if people would support borrowing funds for a new pool as well as what features it should have.
Since February, nothing else has come of this.
