Missing 56-year-old Sooke man found deceased

A 56-year-old Sooke man who was reported missing on November 15th has been found deceased.

In a media release, the Sooke RCMP stated that criminality is not suspected in his death.

Anthony Balzer was last seen leaving the area of Mount Matheson Road in East Sooke.

He was captured on a trail camera with a visible head injury. Search and Rescue crews extensively searched the area; however, specific details regarding where he was located were not disclosed.

“It is with profound sadness that the family of Anthony announces he was found today,” read a GoFundMe page to help aid in the search.

“They are processing the news of his loss and experiencing profound grief and shock at the moment. They are hoping that in lieu of a meal train and other wonderful ideas, contributions can be made to this GoFundMe.”

“Sooke RCMP offers our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased,” said Cpl. James Grandy.

No further details have been released.
