Toys “R” Us officially opens new location at Uptown in time for holiday season

Great news, parents—Toys “R” Us is back just in time for the holiday season.

Canada’s favorite toy store has triumphantly returned to Victoria, now just a hop, skip, and a jump away from its former Mayfair Shopping Centre location.

The new Uptown Shopping Centre location has a much different layout compared to the Mayfair iteration of Toys “R” Us, which was approximately 30,000 square feet. The Uptown spot is slightly smaller, spanning just over 23,000 square feet and spread out over two levels.

Currently, the store is only utilizing one level to open for the upcoming holiday shopping and has been designated as a “pop-up” location for now.

By December 31st, the store will once again close, and the shelves will be emptied so construction crews can commence finalizing the second level.

According to sources, Toys “R” Us will also take over the former 4Cats location next door, which will serve as a warehouse for extra stock.

“Uptown is proud to welcome Toys “R” Us to our property this fall,” said Kristy Lowes, General Manager of Uptown in a statement from May. “This two-level, 23,285-square-foot retailer will occupy the space next to H&M.”

“We are delighted to add another great retailer to our strong mix of national and local brands.”

While no details have been revealed, a grand opening is expected to take place this weekend. We have reached out to Toys “R” Us for confirmation and will update this story once we hear back.

The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
