Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a break-in and attempted ATM robbery at a gas station.

On Friday, November 10th at around 3:40 a.m., police responded to an alarm at the Chevron Gas located at 1643 Bowen Road.

Upon arrival, they found a smashed glass door and a heavily damaged ATM within the store.

The store security video reveals a dark-coloured minivan with no plates backing up to the door. The driver is seen getting out and tying straps to the handles before accelerating and ripping the doors open.

Police said the suspect tied the same straps around the store ATM and attempted to pull it out, but they weren’t successful.

The thief opted to grab some food items instead and drove off.

The suspect was described to be wearing a face covering and dark clothing, along with a high vis vest.

If anyone has information on this incident, you can call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
