BC trucking company suspended after most recent crash into overpass

The latest damages to an overpass near Vancouver caused by a truck belonging to Chohan Freight Forwarders Ltd. may impact all trucking companies operating in the province.

On Thursday, December 28th, a Chohan Freight Forwarders truck attempted to pass under an overpass that crossed over Highway 99 in Delta, BC.

Unfortunately, the truck’s freight was too tall for the overpass and the impact of the truck caused heavy damages to the underside of the overpass rendering it unsafe to use.

Following the collision, Rob Fleming, Victoria-Swan Lake MLA and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure released a statement promising heavier fines for truckers who do not comply with height restrictions.

“This needs to stop,” stated Fleming. “We know that the vast majority of commercial drivers in BC operate safely and responsibly. However, some operators are not getting the message.”

“In the interest of public safety, BC’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement branch (CVSE) has used its new powers to suspend the safety certificate for Chohan Freight Forwarders Ltd.”

This means the Chohan Freight Forwarders fleet of 65 vehicles are now unable to operate in BC as of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 29th.

“Furthermore, the driver and the carrier responsible will face the toughest fines in the country. The outcome of the investigation could lead to further action, said Fleming”

“We recently announced increased fines and the ability to ground fleets through suspensions like this, so highway traffic keeps moving safely and reliably for travellers and commercial vehicles, and people can count on their commute.”

Fleming says that the suspension is the result of the trucking company’s consistent disregard for safety.

Chohan Freight Forwarders has now been the cause of six infrastructure crashes in just two years.
