Bomb scare temporarily closes Toys “R” Us at Uptown on Tuesday afternoon

Share

Uptown was swarmed with police Tuesday afternoon after a bomb threat was called in to one of the shopping centre’s retailers.

On December 19th, the newly opened Toys “R” Us received a bomb threat during the afternoon and reported it to Saanich Police.

Saanich Police say they closed off the store while they conducted a search of the premises with the assistance of a canine unit trained for seeking explosives as well as a member of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team who is trained in handling explosives.

Witnesses also told Victoria Buzz that officers were seen searching H&M located next door.

After police secured the area and found nothing dangerous, they allowed for the store to reopen at around 4:45 p.m. once it was deemed safe.

“There was nothing found that was threatening,” said Sgt. Damian Kowalewich.

Kowalewich added that the incident will be investigated thoroughly and is currently in its preliminary stages.
