Langford’s Winter Fest will light up the city for the season starting this weekend

December is upon us, which means it’s time to delight in the sparkle of the season—and what better way to do so than enjoying all that the City of Langford has to offer?

Langford’s Winter Fest officially kicks off this weekend, and whether you want to enjoy the splendour of the city under the twinkling lights, spend time partaking in festive activities with friends, or capturing the ultimate family holiday photo, there’s a little bit of something for everyone!

You can check out the full list of magical events here, but we’ve compiled a few of our favourites below!

Here are 5 festive events happening during Langford’s Winter Fest this holiday season:

Langford Light Up

The Annual Langford Light Up returns for another year with even more sparkle!

Visit The Langford Station Arts & Cultural District for fun activities, including crafts, ice carving, performances by PACE Musical Theatre, Ablaze Choir, Westshore Community Band, and Pacific Edge Chorus, food trucks, a holiday market, local retailers and much more!

Then you can head across the street to Veterans Memorial Park for a holiday market, musical performances by DJ Oz and The Bright Side, cookie decorating, balloon artist, face painting, free hot dogs and hot chocolate*, and, of course, the annual Light Up display!

Santa will arrive at 5:15 p.m. on the Langford Fire Truck and be available for photos and visits until 7 p.m. The Langford tree lighting will take place at 7:15 p.m. Around 7:30 p.m., the IEOA Truck Parade will pass through Langford with its festively lit and decorated trucks. Tinsel Gazebo

What’s more festive than tinsel ornaments? Hundreds and hundreds of tinsel ornaments and holiday lights, of course! The award-winning Tinsel Gazebo is back for a second year at the Veterans Memorial Park gazebo in downtown Langford. Surround yourself with holiday magic and snap a few photos that will literally sparkle! When posting your photos on Facebook and Instagram, make sure to tag @CityofLangford and use #WinterInLangford for a chance to be featured on their page!

Teen Winter Ice & Roller Skating

SD62 teens can enjoy free, teen-only roller skating and outdoor ice skating at City Centre Park on certain days in December! Skate and helmet rentals are included. Ice skating attendees can enjoy a special on s’mores – 2 for $5!

Teen-only Themed Roller Skating takes place Fridays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Skate and helmet rentals included!

  • December 1st – Neon – wear your most vibrant and colourful attire!
  • December 8th – Disco – get your retro on! Tonight, there will be a DJ spinning vinyl records
  • December 15th – Let it shine! – come decked out in sparkles, glitters and all things that shine
  • December 22nd – Ugly sweater – wear your best or worst but cozy apparel

Skate Victoria will have prizes for the best costumes!

Teen-only Outdoor Ice Skating takes place Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., December 2nd, 9th, 16th and 30th – skate and helmet rentals included!

SD62 Student ID required for entry to teen-only roller skating and outdoor ice skating (ages 12 to 18)

Outdoor Ice Skating

The Outdoor Skating Rink at City Centre Park is fully decorated as a winter wonderland full of lights and holiday decorations! With cabanas, fire pits, skate rentals, helmets, and skate buddies, they have you covered to make the most of your time on the ice. Hot chocolate and other food and drink are available for purchase (outside food and drink is not permitted). You can reserve sessions online, or you may drop in depending on availability.

Stuff the Trolley Challenge

New this year is the Stuff the Trolley Challenge! The Langford Trolley will be travelling around to many exciting winter events, collecting donations for The Goldstream Foodbank and local charities. Give back to the community by stuffing the trolley full of non-perishable food items, toys, cash, warm clothes, and blankets.

All Stuff the Trolley donors can enter to win an epic VIP Langford Lanes prize pack donated by City Centre Park. The prize pack includes four VIP bowling lanes for two hours and shoe rentals.

  • When: Saturday, December 9th – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Westin Bear Mountain Resort*
  • Activities: Carollers, and complimentary hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of the Westin Bear Mountain Resort
    *Please note that the trolley will not physically be in attendance at the Westin Bear Mountain

  • When: Friday, December 15th – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Westshore Town Centre
  • Activities: Complimentary coffee and hot chocolate courtesy of Tim Hortons, and cookies courtesy of Fairway Market

  • When: Saturday, December 16th – 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Belmont Secondary School
  • Activities: Winter magic event – more details coming soon!
