Banding together for environmental change, one beer at a time!

In an ultimate collaboration between Vancouver Island Brewing, the Victoria Royals, and Mount Washington Alpine resort, the trio of companies are  thrilled to present a new beer called the “Wild Marmot Dunkel”—a Munich Style Dark Lager.

Through this shared commitment and campaign launch, they’re contributing much-needed funds for the continuation of recovery work for the endangered Wild Marmot.

Proceeds from the sold beer will be directly benefiting the Marmot Recovery Foundation, whose aim is to recover the wild population of Vancouver Island Marmots through a variety of rescue, release, and monitoring objectives.

Since the foundation’s establishment, they’ve seen the marmonts population rise from 30 to a startling 300, and with continuing community support, they’re hopeful for full recovery.

“Fueled by the generosity of private donors, our work has been crucial in the fight to save the Vancouver Island Marmot. The “Wild Marmot Dunkel” campaign opens a new chapter in our community-driven conservation efforts,” said Adam Taylor, Executive Director of the Marmot Recovery Foundation.

Kayla Stockton, the Marketing Manager for Mount Washington Alpine Resort, reflected on how incredible it’s been to watch them slowly but surely return to the region.

“Witnessing the Vancouver Island Marmot population on our slopes from near extinction to a growing community has been an extraordinary experience,” she said.

Further, Joel Rinne, Director of Marketing and Community Relations at the Victoria Royals, added how much their mascot means to the island.

“Marty the Marmot, more than a mascot, symbolizes Vancouver Island’s unique heritage,” he said.

“This campaign is about more than fundraising; it’s about joining a story of resilience and hope. We urge our fans to actively participate, championing the marmots with each cheer and pint.”

Pints of the limited edition Wild Marmot Dunkel can be found slopeside on Mount Washington at Ted’s Bar & Grill, at Victoria Royals home games in the Save-On-Food Memorial Centre, and in the Vancouver Island Brewing Taproom until mid-January.
