Canada Post suspends service across Vancouver Island due to snow

Share

Canada Post has suspended service on Vancouver Island on Wednesday due to winter storm conditions.

The postal company issued a red delivery service alert for several parts of BC, including Vancouver Island.

Red alerts are issued in cases where the mail service has determined that conditions have become unsafe for delivery agents.

Canada Post stated that delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority,” the company emphasized.

Customers are encouraged to clear snow and ice from walkways, stairs, and driveways to ensure safe access for mail carriers and other visitors.

Alerts can be issued for individual communities or entire provinces, depending on the scale of the weather event. Metro Vancouver is also under a red alert while parts of southern BC is under a yellow alert.

Nearly 20 cm of snow was recorded at Victoria International Airport , causing cancellations and delays with BC Transit and BC Ferries sailings.

In an afternoon update, BC Transit announced that a variety of detours were in place and that six routes have been fully suspended until further notice.
