If you’re vegan or vegetarian and have struggled to find decent meal kit services, this may be for you!

A locally owned and operated plant-based meal prep subscription service called Easy Vegan has just launched, and founder Jocelyn Light told Victoria Buzz she is excited to finally share it with the city after a year and a half of getting ready for the launch.

Light says it’s a values-led company committed to providing the Greater Victoria community and beyond with convenient, fresh, and delicious plant-based meal options.

Plus, Easy Vegan will incorporate and celebrate locally grown produce—so, you know exactly where it’s coming from.

“About a year or so into COVID, I started noticing there were more and more advertisements for meal kit services, but when I looked at them there wasn’t much for people on a plant-based diet,” Light explained.

She says many bigger meal prep services rely too much on fake meat alternatives, non-local produce, and they use too much packaging.

“Easy Vegan offers customers a diverse menu of fresh and tasty meals to choose from each week…We’re committed to our community and the environment. That’s why we source from local farmers and producers whenever we can.”

Similar to other food subscription services, Easy Vegan provides step-by-step instructions and portioned ingredients for recipes that are designed to take less than 30 minutes to prepare.

Subscribers will be able to choose from a list of four recipes each week—two of which are always free of common allergens such as soy, gluten, and nuts, so there will always be an option that suits your needs and preferences.

Local producers that Easy Vegan has partnered with places such as Saanich Organics, SunTrio Farm, Green Cuisine, and MAiiZ.

“[Easy Vegan’s] commitment to sourcing locally aligns with our values, and we’re excited to be a part of delivering exceptional, fresh ingredients to households across Victoria,” said Israel, Chef and Founder at MAiiZ.

In addition to its emphasis on local, Easy Vegan helps its customers eat greener by using as little packaging as possible.

Their house-made sauces and spice mixes are stored in recyclable packaging, while other ingredients are stored in compostable materials.

If this is something you’d be interested in, Easy Vegan’s meal kits are ready for pick-up in Victoria on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or delivered through their partners at South Island Farm Hub on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

People can choose to have between two and four servings per day, up to four days a week. For two people to have four fresh, locally produced meals a week, it costs $108 per week.

“I am excited to build what we’ve started a bit more,” Light told Victoria Buzz, “so there’s constantly more recipes and more variety coming out.”
