Vancouver Island river recognized as top destination for fishing trips in Canada

Share

Vancouver Island is one of the most sought out locations for Canadian domestic and international vacations alike for a myriad of reasons, including fishing.

According to FishingBooker, an online platform used to plan and book fishing trips, one Vancouver Island spot in particular is being recognized as the second best fishing destination in Canada.

The Cowichan River won the number two spot for the best fishing spot of the year, coming in just behind Lake Ontario, and just above the Bow River which runs through Calgary.

The fishing platform says that the Cowichan River won this prestigious spot on their list because for islanders and visitors on a fishing trip, it’s the go-to spot for trout fishing and has plenty of other recreational activities that are easily accessible in the area.

“Summer invites adventure with activities like swimming, canoeing, biking, and tubing,” said a FishingBooker spokesperson in a media release.

“Whether it’s the vibrant spring or crisp fall, Cowichan River promises angling treats, with rainbow trout in April and brown trout action in October.”

There are also a couple spots nearby for avid fly fishers—Sandy Pool and Stoltz Pool, which are located just up river en route to Lake Cowichan.

The full list of Canada’s top fishing spots is:

  1. Lake Ontario, ON
  2. The Cowichan River, BC
  3. Bow River, AB
  4. Last Mountain Lake, SK
  5. Lake Dauphin, MB
  6. Saguenay, QC
  7. North Lake, PEI
  8. Bras d’Or Lake, NS
  9. The Gander River, NL
  10. The French River, ON

In years past, Vancouver Island has been similarly recognized; however, this is the first time the Cowichan River has made the top 10 list.

Sooke, Campbell River and Vancouver Island as a whole have all been given the nod from FishingBooker for their plentiful fishing and beautiful landscapes.

Do you think there is another fishing spot that is equal to, or better than Cowichan River on Vancouver Island?
