A cyclist found along the side of a road in Courtenay has died from their injuries, and now RCMP are searching for the suspect.

In a media release, Comox Valley RCMP stated that they are seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle involved in the deadly hit-and-run on Thursday night.

The injured cyclist was discovered around 10:56 p.m. on February 8th by a passerby who called 911, on the Comox Valley Parkway near Minto Road.

Emergency Health Services paramedics and Courtenay Fire Department firefighters attended and provided emergency first aid to the victim. However, unfortunately, after being transported to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are currently working to establish the precise time of the collision. Investigators are urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, or surveillance recordings pertaining to the suspected hit-and-run incident that took place last night between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.—perhaps even as early as 9 p.m.—to come forward.

“We are asking anyone who was travelling along the Comox Valley Parkway, or surrounding area, to carefully review their dashcam footage and come forward if they were in the area during this time and may have captured something,” said Const. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP.

At the time of the collision, the victim was riding a specialized bicycle, which was red and white in colour, along the parkway.

Police believe the vehicle involved would have sustained front-end damage.

“We are also asking that anyone with any information that may be relevant to our investigation come forward, this includes the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, any passengers, and anyone who might have noticed some very recent, potentially suspicious, damage to a vehicle,” said Terragni.

Anyone with information or video of the area is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
