Premier David Eby announced three new appointments on Monday, February 20th, just ahead of the 2024 throne speech that will launch the spring legislative session.

The three new MLAs will be taking over roles previously held by other members.

The first ministerial appointment went to Lisa Beare, the BC NDP MLA for the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows electoral district and she will be the new Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

The former Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills was Selina Robinson, who resigned from the position after making Islamophobic comments that went viral.

Beare formerly held the position of the Minister of Citizens’ Services and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in Premier Eby’s cabinet.

The second appointment went to BC NDP MLA, George Chow who represents the Vancouver-Fraserview electoral district.

He has served the BC NDP cabinet previously as Minister of State for Trade.

Prior to running for office with the BC NDP, Chow served for two terms on the Vancouver city council.

“Lisa and George have tremendous experience, and in these new roles they will both be dedicated to supporting people,” said Premier Eby.

“We have made incredible progress in modernizing services that people depend on, like delivering high-speed internet to more communities. George will continue that work, as well as further our important anti-racism data initiatives.”

Beare has been tasked with closing the skills gap and Chow must help British Columbians become more connected, according to Eby.

The third appointment is for Ravi Parmer, the BC NDP MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca.

He will be the new Parliamentary Secretary for International Credentials and will be tasked with supporting Beare, the new Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills in removing barriers for internationally educated professionals coming to work in British Columbia.
