‘Tofino bus’: Popular bus route from Victoria to Tofino returning for Easter weekend

Dust off your suitcases and pack your bags, we’re headed up island!

According to locally owned Wilson Group of Companies, the popular intercity “Tofino Bus” will be making its grand return on Easter weekend.

On Friday, March 29th, spring will officially commence with the bus’ first few runs up and down the island, connecting Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni, Ucluelet, and Tofino.

The service will consist of two full-sized 56-seat motor coaches equipped with seatbelts, individual reclining seats, luggage space, and washrooms.

“We believe this is a vital link to bridging Vancouver Island for residents and visitors,” said John Wilson, President and CEO of The Wilson’s Group.

According to a media release, the service will expand throughout the spring and summer with the Victoria to Tofino routes occurring Thursdays to Sundays, while travel back down the island will be scheduled for Fridays to Mondays.

In 2019, Wilson’s provided 82,500 trips to twenty-nine communities and twenty-one First Nations and First Nations organizations on Vancouver Island.

And although there have been significant challenges with COVID-19 restrictions as well as road closures, they’re hoping to continue this vital service for as long as possible.

Steven Seltzer, the Communications, Marketing and Sales Manager told Victoria Buzz that although the pandemic has lessened its grip, services have continued to take a major hit due to the fires and road closures.

Because this service relies on ticket sales to cover running costs, they’re hoping this year will bring a marvelous come-back to the bus route’s full potential—so, take advantage and plan your trip to Tofino!

“We truly do live in one of the most special places in the world and we look forward to continuing to serve and give back to help connect these communities for many years to come,” Wilson added.
