A GoFundMe has been launched for family of teen killed in two-vehicle crash near Mill Bay.

The fundraiser identified the deceased as 17-year-old Kieran Harper who was a senior student at Frances Kelsey Secondary School.

The collision, which occurred at around 9:15 a.m. on February 29th, involved two vehicles: a white Volvo and a black truck.

Initial investigations suggest that the Volvo, driven by Kieran, made a left turn from Butterfield Road onto the Trans Canada Highway.

Tragically, his vehicle was struck by the southbound black truck.

While the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, Kieran succumbed to the impact of the collision.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the accident.

“As many of you know, Kieran Harper passed away tragically on Feb 29 on the Malahat. His mom, Carrie-Ann is going through something no parent should ever have to endure,” read the GoFundMe.

His mother, Carrie-Ann, has been an active parent volunteer at the school, starting with Bench and continuing through Kelsey, where Kieran was set to graduate in June.

“She is one of the hardest working moms we know. We want her to be able to navigate through this chapter of her life without worrying about the financial strain that she will face while grieving the loss of her only child,” said Debbie Wright-Tousaw who started the fundraiser.

“This is a time where our community can come together and support one of our own families. Any financial support, no matter what the amount, will be very helpful.”

All donations will be directly given to Kieran’s mom, Carrie-Ann. As of this publication, the GoFundMe has raised over $6,000 of its $10,000 goal.

In response to the incident, the highway was closed until shortly after 1 p.m. as a collision analyst reviewed the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing. Authorities are actively seeking information and urging any witnesses to come forward.

Those who may have information relevant to the investigation are encouraged to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-1549.
