Here’s why you might start seeing art hidden all over Greater Victoria next week

Share

Escape the confined space of a gallery or museum and step out into the streets of Victoria, seeking art at every turn.

This year marks the fourth annual International Art and Found Day, where artists worldwide drop thousands of artworks around their communities for local residents to find and appreciate.

Over 1,350 artists across 50 countries will be participating this year, 10 of which will be Victoria-based artists ready to inspire and awe.

The artists will include Kristine Ovens, Linda Kirstein, Mara Szyp, Oz Tilson, Ray Renooy, Samantha Salvat, Sheena Mckenzie and Tina Lyons!

Creatives of all disciplines have joined forces—from the vibrant strokes of painters to the intricate lines of illustrators, from the visionary captures of photographers to the bold forms of sculptors, there’s bound to be something that draws your eyes.

Each piece will be wrapped with a note marked #ArtandFoundDay, allowing each new owner a moment to connect with the mind behind the piece.

“Art and Found Day isn’t just an event; it’s a movement to infuse our lives with art’s boundless energy,” said Courtney Senior, Founder of Art and Found Day.

“Art bridges divides, sparks conversation, and kindles the spirit of discovery. Our aim? To bring art’s transformative power to the world’s fingertips.”

Art and Found started in 2015 in Toronto when Senior began leaving free artwork around the city and sharing it on social media.

Since then, artists around the world have joined the movement—including countries such as Singapore, Brazil, Turkey, England, Korea, Finland and many more.

Have a wander Victoria, see it for yourself. You may even find a new addition for your home!
