Esquimalt resident Douglas Bowker is gearing up for some exciting times ahead after clinching the $500,000 Extra prize from the March 16th Lotto 6/49 draw.

The fortunate winner shared his exhilarating experience, recounting the moment he discovered his windfall at the Metchosin Country Store.

“I was at [Metchosin Country Store], scanning the ticket on the self-scanner,” recalled Bowker.

“The sun was glaring on the display. I couldn’t see the amount and asked the retailer to scan the ticket and they could not believe it. I was just scattered when I heard the amount!”

Bowker decided to keep the news of his win to himself.

“I had a friend tell me if I win, to clam up until I got all my senses together!”

With plans to rekindle his passion for golfing and fishing, Bowker is eager to embrace the joys of leisure once again.

On how it feels to win? “It fluctuates between disbelief and, ‘Oh, I can buy those cars I wanted!’ I will just figure it out as I go along and take my time,” he said.

Bowker purchased the winning ticket at Fraser 25 on Esquimalt Road in Victoria.

In 2023, BCLC said there have been more than $38 million in winnings from the Extra and over $120 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
