10 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend—May 25th and 26th


After a short work-week, we’ve arrived at the weekend, Victoria!

The weather is set to be a mix of cloud and rain, so be sure to pick from our fun indoor events happening in and around the city and keep dry in addition to entertained.

Some highlights for this weekend include the sought-after Ultimate Hobby & Toy Fair, the Swiftsure Yacht Race, Awakening Chinatown, and Rick Mercer and Jann Arden on stage at McPherson Playhouse.

Blues icon Cedric Burnside will also be in Victoria this weekend!

Victoria’s Ultimate Hobby & Toy Fair 

Dive into nostalgia and discover new things at Victoria’s Ultimate Hobby & Toy Fair this weekend on Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th.

Hosted by Cherry Bomb Toys, this toy extravaganza will be set up at Pearkes Recreation Centre from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with around 200 different tables set up for weekend-long family enjoyment.

The toy fair will be raising money for BC Children’s Hospital and the MS Society with a silent auction running at the event. 

Each day is priced at $5 for admission, or a Saturday ‘early bird’ ticket (which includes a pass for the weekend) for $15. Cash only!

Kids aged 12 and under are free so long as they’re accompanied by an adult.

Swiftsure Yacht Race 

Journey over to Clover Point to witness the graceful ferocity of the yacht races!

This will be the 79th annual running of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club’s ‘Swiftsure’ International Yacht Race.

As one of the most anticipated racing events, you’ll want to be sure to catch the 13+ boats and racers that have come from across the globe to participate.

On Saturday at 9 a.m., the Central Saanich Lions Club will be serving a pancake breakfast before the races start at 10 a.m.—so you’ll have time to grab a bite before you watch!

Prom: 80s-Themed Maximalist

Join TC Productions as they throw an epic prom-themed party on May 25th, at the Victoria Edelweiss Club—giving you the chance to relive your best night, or redo your worst!

The theme for this adult ‘Prom’ is described as ‘80s maximalism’, with live music, drag, interactive art installations, GoGo Dancers and more.

Focused as a fundraiser, Prom is held to both uplift and connect local arts communities, and to raise money for Raven Trust and two grassroots community organizations helping with the crisis in Gaza.

Attendees will be treated to top-notch performances from a diverse lineup of local BIPOC talent!

Tickets are $35 if purchased ahead of time and $40 at the door. If cost is a barrier for you, they are offering low income tickets for a limited time, as well as BIPOC discounted tickets upon request.

Blossoming at the Farm Fundraiser

The Blossoming at the Farm Society is hosting a fair-themed fundraiser this year to support the continuation of their programs!

Attendees can expect a market, chicken bingo, silent auction items, disc golf and much more.

Blossoming at the Farm was established in 2017 and is a non-profit society that offers therapeutic services and programming for children and youth, which is supported by our land, animals, and staff.

Free admission, but bring cash to treat yourself to some goodies!

The Choirs YYJ Spring Concert

This Saturday, The Farquhar at UVic will be hosting The Choirs YYJ Spring Concert event!

Guests will be presented with special performances from The Choir, The Chorus, Sound Dragon and The Mini-Choir—all of which are excited to share their original choral and piano arrangements of songs by The Indigo Girls, Sarah Harmer, The Cure, The Black Pumas and more.

General admission tickets are $23.50 and $5 for students and children. All ticket proceeds will go towards Power To Be.

What The World Needs Now

If you’re looking for an entertaining and uplifting evening of music, magic, love and laughter, join hosts Forbes and Marshall in West Coast Reach Association’s show, ‘What The World Needs Now.’

This is a family-friendly, ASL interpreted event, and will feauture a professional swing trio, comedy/improv, a children’s choir and a magician.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased via Eventbrite or $25 at the door—all proceeds will go towards the charitable programs of West Coast Reach Association.

Awakening Chinatown

The Victoria Chinatown Museum Society (VCMS) is thrilled to invite you to this year’s 3rd annual Awakening Chinatown event.

It will take place on Sunday, May 26th from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Victoria’s historic Chinatown neighbourhood—complete with a variety of different performances, arts and crafts.

Events include the timeless grace of traditional Chinese dances by both youth and adult groups, vocal performers in varying styles, drumming, magicians, Chinese arts and games, demonstrations of Chinese calligraphy, fortune telling and more!

Will They or Won’t They Tour

Prepare to be enthralled as two iconic Canadian legends team up for the ultimate tour—don’t miss singer/songwriter and author Jann Arden and comedian and TV personality Rick Mercer.

Their tour, titled the Will They or Won’t They Tour, will be storming Victoria’s McPherson Playhouse this Sunday!

The show was produced by Live Nation Canada and will be a nationwide tour featuring these notable voices in a series of free wheeling, unscripted, unrehearsed, and unrestrained discussions that will have audiences captivated.

Cedric Burnside at Wicket Hall

For blues enthusiasts, this isn’t a show you’ll want to miss!

Head over to Wicket Hall and catch North Mississippi’s Grammy-winning guitarist, drummer and singer-songwriter Cedric Burnside in action.

As described, this legendary musician was born into blues as much as he was in funk, rock, soul and hip-hop. He studied over a decade playing with his grandfather R.L. Burnside—a blues luminary.

By the impressive age of 13, Cedric Burnside was on the road with his grandfather, playing drums, and developing the next generation of the Hill Country calling.

Groove Studios is proud to present the 12th Victoria Drum Festival at the Songhees Wellness Center this Sunday!
