Happy weekend, Victoria!—how will you be ringing yours in?

From the beloved, community favourite Sweet Street event to an abundance of festivals and other outdoor activities, this weekend is bound to be the best yet!

Plus, you can take your pick from a multitude of theatre and musical performances, including Triple Threat Performers Arts Society’s version of Matilda The Musical.

Ska & Reggae Festival

Back and bigger than ever, it has been the festival’s 25th annual year—a monumental achievement promised to bring a stacked cast of performers that you won’t get anywhere else.

This five day celebration, which kicked off on June 19th, takes place in the heart of downtown Victoria, and presents impressive debuts and favourites from around the world to showcase the power and beauty of Jamaican rooted music and culture.

Triple Threat Performers Arts Society: Matilda the Musical

Triple Threat Performers Arts Society are putting on a production of Matilda The Musical, which features an ensemble of remarkably talented young performers!

Their captivating series of performances kicked off on Thursday, June 20th and will run until Sunday, June 23rd.

Tony Award-winning Matilda the Musical is a classic fan favourite, and the Triple Threat Performers are excited to bring their own special flair to this enchanting experience for all ages.

AACCCS-Issamba Center: 11th annual AfriCA Fest

Join the AACCCS-Issamba Center as they celebrate their 11th annual AfriCA Fest—a vibrant three-day festival that honours African and Caribbean culture.

It kicked off on Friday, June 21st to Sunday, June 23rd at Centennial Square, and attendees will be immersed in the diverse and rich heritage through music, dance, art and food!

An array of performances awaits you, from soulful melodies of the Sahara to the high-energy beats of West African drums, you’ll have the opportunity to experience it all.

Highlights include some electrifying performances from headliner MamaKaffe from Ivory Coast and Waahli from Montreal; a marketplace with plenty of authentic African crafts, textiles and artwork for sale; and culinary delights featuring dishes from many different African countries.

Grab a Pup Patty

From now until Sunday, June 23rd is your last chance to grab the special A&W dog treat with a special purpose—the Pup Patty, sold for $2 each.

These Pup Patties are made from their specialty premium grass-fed beef, but without the seasoning to ensure every dog can safely savour it!

Each patty purchased will see a portion of the proceeds donated to non-profit organizations in Canada dedicated to the raising and training of service dogs, including the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS).

The Pup Patty is only available for ordering at A&W drive-thrus, as pets are not allowed inside the dining area.

41st annual TD Victoria International JazzFest

This year marks the 41st annual TD Victoria International JazzFest—the longest running multi-day music festival on Vancouver Island!

It kicked off on Friday, June 21st and runs until Sunday, June 30th! Get ready for many incredible days of high-caliber artists performing in both outdoor and indoor venues.

Not only will there be a number of unbelievably talented headliners performing in popular venues across Victoria, there will also be several free shows, workshops and pop-ups happening throughout the week too.

Summer Sonic at Quadratic Sound

Bring your pals and come for a night of dancing and good vibes at Quadratic Sound’s Summer Sonic event!

Featured are DJs Koo Koo Mama, Löblová, Milfmaid and Triikstr, bringing attendees “sweet house beats, hypnotizing techno, melodic vibes and juicy baselines.”

Remaining tickets are just over $30 online or $35 at the door.

Sweet Street at Westshore Town Centre

It’s time for a sugar rush!

Westshore Town Centre’s highly anticipated, deliciously popular event ‘Sweet Street’ returns this weekend, and this year, it promises to be sweeter than ever!

This Saturday, June 22nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., WTC’s Cineplex parking lot will become a sweet escape for anyone looking to treat themselves.

From cotton candy and ice cream to cookies, cupcakes, International delicacies and more, there will be something for everyone at Sweet Street.

Whistle Buoy’s Big Patio Days: Birthday Party 

It’s Whistle Buoy’s business birthday, and rather than on big ‘Whistlemania’ birthday bash, their expanding the celebration and the fun by giving attendees six smaller events over the course of the summer and into the fall!

The first one is held this Saturday, when the original Whistlemania would’ve taken place, and includes music by Juice and Acres of Lions.

Admission is only $5 and includes an afternoon of great beer, fantastic entertainment, games, food and other wonderful additions!

Indigenous Art & Storytelling

The Arts & Culture Colwood Society are hosting a series of Indigenous artist gatherings, and you’re invited!

If you miss Wednesday and Thursday’s events, Friday’s will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be an Art & Storytelling event the following day, Saturday, June 22nd from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Coolapalooza

Rockin’ music for a cause!

Get together with loved ones at the Coolapalooza event at Beacon Park in Sidney. It’ll be a fun-filled afternoon of music, food trucks and socializing—all in support of the Victoria Cool-Aid Society.

Maria Koropecky

St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall will be hosting a book signing and fundraising event for local authorMaria Koropecky!

Her book, Closer to Indigo, follows her mid-life pilgrimage journey along the Camino de Santiago in Spain fueled her creativity and inspired her to self-publish.

Since publishing, she has expanded her storytelling to the screen with the series Saanich: Emerging Land; Emerging People, based on scenes from her book.

Now, she wishes to bring her narrative to a wider audience by making it accessible via Audible, which requires a lot of time and funds to see completed. To shoulder some of the costs, she has started a fundraising campaign, and is hoping to raise funds to see this dream become reality.

The fundraising event at the church will feature a talk by Maria, a viewing of episode eight “Sunflowers and Dragonflies” from her TV series, followed by a Q&A session and book signing.

Closer to Indigo will be available to purchase on-site for anyone that is interested!

Riot Grrrls: Human Body Slam 2.0

West Coast League Of Legendary Wrestlers is thrilled to present their 19+ queer feminist wrestling event, Riot Grrrls: Human Body Slam 2.0!

Their theme is ‘thrift shop,’ so come dressed to impress in your best and funkiest thrifted items and watch the star wrestlers throw down.

The Big IDEA: Pride Event

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is hosting a Pride event titled, ‘The Big IDEA’ and everyone is invited!

Through the lens of the vibrant 2SLGBTQIA+ community, this performance focuses on the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA)—creating a more inclusive music space for all.

Tickets are sold on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, starting from $0 to $24.
