33-year-old arrested in Colwood for alleged impaired driving and causing a hit-and-run

West Shore RCMP have arrested a 33-year-old man for prohibited driving as well as alleged impaired driving and causing a hit-and-run in Metchosin.

At around 12:18 p.m. on Sunday, June 9th, police received a call regarding a man who appeared to be intoxicated and trying to start a motorcycle in the 3300 block of Metchosin Road in Colwood.

When officers attended the scene, they say the motorcyclist attempted to flee, but was ultimately stopped.

West Shore RCMP then initiated an impaired driving investigation as their officers reported the driver showing signs of intoxication.

While conducting their investigation, police say they observed his bike matched one that had been involved in a hit-and-run earlier that day.

A motorcycle matching his bike’s description had reportedly sideswiped a vehicle in the 4900 block of Sooke Road in Metchosin.

In this incident, police reports say the motorcycle was illegally driving on the shoulder when it side swiped a Mazda CX-5.

A witness was able to communicate the bike’s licence plate to police.

According to police, the suspect was also prohibited from driving at the time of his arrest. He was bound by conditions relating to a previous incident to “not be in the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle.”

The man’s motorcycle was impounded and the suspect was held in custody and brought before the courts on June 11th.

He has since been released with an upcoming court date.

His list of charges include:

  • Breach of release order
  • Wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer
  • Refuse to provide a breath sample
  • Four counts of driving while prohibited
