41st annual JazzFest returns to Victoria this month with incredible lineup

Share

Welcome back to another exciting year of jazz!

This year will mark the 41st annual TD Victoria International JazzFest—the longest running multi-day music festival on Vancouver Island!

From Friday, June 21st to Sunday, June 30th, get ready for ten incredible days of high-caliber artists performing in both outdoor and indoor venues.

Not only will there be a number of unbelievably talented headliners performing in popular venues across Victoria, there will also be several free shows, workshops and pop-ups happening throughout the week too.

Headliners include Australian singer-songwriter/guitarist Ziggy Alberts, who has captivated audiences worldwide with his authentic lyrics, folk-pop melodies, and an upbeat energy that shines in his solo live performances.

You won’t want to miss his TD JazzFest debut, as his previous appearance in Victoria resulted in a sold-out show!

He’ll be performing at the Royal Theatre on Sunday, June 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here—starting at $40.25.

Other headliners include Veronica Swift with Kjetil Mulelid Trio and Twin Bill: Take 6 & Morgan James.

Veronica Swift will rock the McPherson Playhouse stage on Tuesday, June 25th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $45.75!

She has been highlighted and praised by a number of media outlets and fellow musicians, and is known to transcend boundaries—exploring French and Italian opera, European classical music, bossa nova, blues, industrial rock, funk, and vaudeville.

Twin Bill: Take 6 & Morgan James will follow on Wednesday, June 26th at the Royal Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $56.75 and can be purchased here

Take 6 is described as a model for vocal genius! This 10-time GRAMMY Award-winning super vocal group features musicians Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentley.

They have collaborated with Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, and Jacob Collier, and also appeared alongside Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Nicks, and Taylor Swift!

Singer/songwriter and Broadway actress Morgan James attended The Juilliard School, then going on to record and tour internationally with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, which performed at TD JazzFest 2017.

Similar to last year, one of the outdoor venues will include Beacon Hill Park, where many of the free shows will take place.

Free performances to catch include Angela Verbrugge Quartet, Calico, Josh Warren’s Groove Circus, and much more!

Check out the JazzFest schedule to take a look at all of the ticketed and free opportunities available to you this year.

Plus, to celebrate the festival being in its 40s, the Victoria Jazz Society will also be hosting a free birthday bash on Thursday, June 27th at Bullen Park starting at 5:30 p.m.!

It’s going to be a fantastic one and we hope to see you there!
