An online fundraiser has been launched to help support a family who are dealing with an impossibly difficult situation.
On Saturday, June 15th, 17-year-old Keron McKay was swimming near a floating dock at Langford Lake when nearby swimmers saw him go under and not resurface.
He was brought out of the water by fellow swimmers and onto the floating dock where life-saving efforts were made by those on the dock.
Paramedics arrived soon after and were ferried to McKay by civilians with boats. He was then taken back to the lake’s main dock using the Langford Fire Department’s vessel.
McKay was then taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Now, a family friend has launched a fundraiser to help his father, Phillip McKay, who is raising a family of five on his own.
“Phillip is the single father to five children,” wrote Nicola Lenton, who started the fundraiser.
“His son Keron is the young man who was rescued from Langford Lake on Saturday, June 15. Keron remains in critical condition.”
She says Phillip works hard to support his family and maintains a positive, happy and caring environment for his kids.
“I am hoping to raise money to help him with medical costs, transportation, food and any other support that the family needs in this very trying time,” she continued.
As of this publication, the fundraiser has garnered just $200 of the $50,000 goal.
Donations can be made online via GoFundMe.
