Nanaimo fishing charter company wins prestigious award for excellence in industry

An online platform which connects anglers to fishing guides, FishingBooker, has announced its annual Angler’s Choice Awards for the year.

According to FishingBooker, this award is not given out lightly.

Out of 7,910 captains and charters who partner with the platform, only around 6.8% receive this recognition for their excellence at their craft.

One of the deserved winners, Andrew Turkstra of Reel Time Fishing Charters & Marine Tours, is based in Nanaimo and is among the top rated fishing charters on the platform.

Reel Time Fishing Charters takes guests on charters aboard a 26 foot Hourston Glascraft Command Bridge.

This ship is considered a top pick by many charter operators and boat enthusiasts and has a solid reputation as a safe and stable vessel that is well-suited for the West Coast.

It features a heated cabin with seating for six; a galley with a table, sink and icebox; an enclosed bathroom; a large deck for fishing; and the latest in technology and gear for a fishing expedition.

“We’ve been awarding the Angler’s Choice Award since 2015,” said Vukan Simic, CEO of FishingBooker.

“Over time, the criteria became tougher, as we wanted to recognize and honor our most committed captains, and to make it easier for anglers to identify the very best guides on our platform.”

“Today, we have the pleasure of recognizing a very select group of guides. We couldn’t be more excited to honor them for their hard work and dedication,” he added.

Requirements to be considered eligible for the prestigious award are that fishing guides must meet the following criteria over the past 12 months:

  • Hold a 4.8+ out of 5-star review rating from 10+ verified reviews
  • Maintain 98% reliability score and response rate
  • Have full business verification

Fishing trips with Reel Time Fishing Charters costs anywhere from $500 to $1,200, depending on the type of trip, how many people are coming and the season.
