Portion of Shelbourne Street to close for construction over the next month

Share

Anyone who commutes via Shelbourne Street is familiar with the bumps and ongoing construction, but soon that will be no more!

Starting on Tuesday, June 18th, the District of Saanich will be closing Shelbourne Street between Cedar Hill Cross Road and North Dairy Road to complete construction.

Closures will occur in two phases, the first of which will be from June 18th to July 1st, with a closure to all southbound traffic.

It will be open to one-way northbound traffic, including cyclists.

From July 2nd to 31st, the designated section of Shelbourne Street will be fully closed, and in effect 24 hrs/day, seven days a week—buses and other traffic will be detoured.

Cars will still have access to businesses and personal residences in the affected area, and pedestrians and cyclists will have full access throughout the closure.

The closures are a part of the major Shelbourne Street improvement project, which has been ongoing for several years.

The changes will include new cycling facilities, pedestrian safety improvements, transit improvements, replacement of underground utility infrastructure and new asphalt road surface.

Upon completion of this complex project, Shelbourne will be safer and more accessible for all users.
