Two teens struck by pickup truck while crossing Colwood crosswalk

Two teenagers were transported to hospital Wednesday night after being struck by a truck while walking across a marked crosswalk in Colwood.

According to West Shore RCMP, the incident occurred around 6:19 p.m. on May 12th at the intersection of Latoria Boulevard and Ryder Hesjedal Way.

The two pedestrians, both aged 19, were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

According to police, the Nissan Frontier pickup truck was waiting at a red light at the intersection. When the light turned green, the driver made a left turn through the crosswalk, striking the two pedestrians who had the right of way.

The driver of the truck told police he did not see the pedestrians. Speed and impairment were ruled out as contributing factors.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to pedestrians.
