Victoria announces stacked lineup featuring drone show for this year’s Canada Day celebration

The City of Victoria has announced who will be playing at this year’s Canada Day celebration which will once again take place on the front lawns of the BC legislature.

This year, the Inner Harbour will see its first ever drone show that will take place after the day’s headlining act, JUNO Award-winning DJ Shub and there’s more where that came from.

He is considered to be the Godfather of PowWowStep and has pioneered a growing genre of electronic music across Canada.

In addition to DJ Shub headlining the show, Hey Ocean!, Mauvey, Posh Coat, Yvonne Kushe and the lək̓ʷəŋən Traditional Dancers, among others will also be performing.

The Canada Day celebration is being planned by Rifflandia Entertainment Company, who utilized a drone show during Paris Hilton’s performance at last year’s Rifflandia Festival.

The display was so spectacular, it makes sense that they would want to bring that same magic to this endeavour.

The seven-minute drone show will be curated and designed by contemporary Indigenous artist, Rande Cook. It will take place just after the headlining act and will be interwoven with this year’s fireworks display.

There will also be an international food village on Belleville Street that will provide a variety of local food trucks offering as myriad of global flavours.

Lastly, in terms of programming, a ‘Family Zone’ on the Legislature lawns will host several kid-friendly activities.

“This July 1, bring your family and friends to Victoria’s spectacular waterfront for an exciting, inclusive Canada Day celebration,” exclaimed Mayor Marianne Alto.

“Taste your way around the world, dance the afternoon and night away with some of Canada’s most talented musicians, be taken on Indigenous and multicultural journeys through storytelling and cultural performances, and stay for the spectacular drone and fireworks finale that will light up the night sky.”

Do you plan on going to check out the fireworks, drone show, music and food? What’s your favourite part of it all?
