Victoria was once again featured on the adored trivia show ‘Jeopardy!’.

The show has featured the city several times throughout its 40 seasons, and this time the question for contestants was regarding which city the iconic Fairmont Empress Hotel resides.

Specifically, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings was asked to reveal the question under the “Canadian cities” category for $1,200.

He stated the prompt for the contestants to answer in the form of a question as “Opened in 1908 AD, the Empress Hotel is a landmark in this BC capital.”

Contestant Steve answered correctly by asking “What is Victoria?”

The Fairmont Empress was constructed on Government Street facing the Inner Harbour by a faction of the Canadian Pacific Railway company.

At the time of construction it was considered to be one of the country’s grand railway hotels and has since undergone two major expansions in 1910 and 1928.

It was designed by Francis Rattenbury, the same architect who designed BC’s legislature and the CPR Steamship Terminal in Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
