Environment Canada has issued the first heat warning of the season for parts of Vancouver Island as temperatures begin to soar.
The warning covers much of eastern Vancouver Island, from Sayward in the north to Malahat in the south.
The heat wave is expected to start on Vancouver Island and gradually move east across the province.
Residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated and to check on vulnerable individuals during this period of intense heat.
The forecast for Victoria shows daytime highs of 29°C over the weekend while locations such as Duncan could see highs of 32°C on Friday.
Further up the island, some places will be even hotter, with highs of 31°C forecasted for Nanaimo and Campbell River, and 36°C for Port Alberni.
Temperatures across much of Vancouver Island are expected to return to seasonal levels by mid-next week.
Make sure to load up on sunscreen if you’re planning to take part on Phillips Backyard TILT Music Festival or Victoria’s Pride Parade this weekend.
