Impaired driver nabbed driving 72 km/h over speed limit in Colwood

A 37-year-old man will be without a driver’s license for some time after being caught for excessive speeding and impaired driving.

On the evening of July 7th, a routine speed enforcement operation conducted by the West Shore RCMP near Colwood took a dramatic turn when officers encountered a reckless driver exceeding double the posted speed limit.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Veterans Memorial Parkway near Cairndale Road, a Dodge Ram truck was spotted by police travelling at an alarming 132 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone—72 km/hr over the legal limit.

Upon pulling over the vehicle, West Shore RCMP officers noted that the 37-year-old male driver appeared to be impaired by alcohol.

The driver was asked to provide breath samples using an approved roadside screening device. Both samples returned fail results, confirming alcohol levels above the legal limit.

With that, the Dodge Ram he was driving was impounded for 30 days, and the driver received a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition.

Additionally, he was issued a $483 violation ticket for excessive speeding. The driver is also responsible for all towing and impound costs associated with his vehicle, and will receive at least three penalty points added to his driving record.
