A portion of Highway 19 in Parksville remains closed Friday following a fatal single-vehicle crash.
According to Oceanside RCMP, one person died after a single-vehicle accident on the Inland Island Highway early Friday morning.
At 6:08 a.m. on July 26, emergency crews responded to the crash between Exits 46 and 51 in Parksville. The collision occurred just south of the Englishman River bridge and involved a commercial delivery truck.

Police report that the truck was travelling north when it lost control, collided with the cement centre median, and came to rest in the southbound lanes of the highway.
One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and a second passenger were transported to hospital and are expected to survive.
“The investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing and is being led by the Oceanside RCMP Detachment, with assistance from the RCMP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners Service,” read a statement from RCMP.
Police have not released the names of the deceased or the other occupants.
Currently, the highway is closed in both directions, with detours in place onto Highway 19A.
